Steering Committee

Culture is at the heart of this project, as is the commitment of the WA Government to work in partnership with Aboriginal people on projects and services that affect them and their communities.

In a significant milestone for a major WA Government infrastructure project, the Steering Committee was established with Aboriginal members who provided cultural knowledge, guidance, and direction throughout the project's development.

During the business case phase, the Whadjuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre Cultural Authority (WACCCA) served as the foundational members of the phase one Steering Committee, recognising their role as the centre’s host nation.

Following a wide reaching expression of interest process, the phase two Steering Committee expanded to 9 members, with a particular focus on Aboriginal community members from across WA, to support the project definition stage of the centre’s development. The phase two Steering Committee's two-year term concluded in December 2026.

During its operation, the Steering Committee was chaired by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier: Sabine Winton MLA (2021-2023), Jodie Hanns MLA (2023), Jessica Stojkovski MLA (2023 - 2025), and Divina D'Anna MLA (2025-2026). The Steering Committee included representatives from WA Government agencies and one representative from the Australian Government.
