Intro

The Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport is delivering the Grassroots governance 101 webinar, facilitated by Caroline Robinson from 150Square.

Strengthen your committee’s confidence, clarity and capability in this focused 1‑hour webinar. It is designed for both new and experienced committee members.

This session explains governance in simple, practical terms where you can apply the learning straight away in your club or association. We will also provide tools and resources to support you and you committee.

What you will learn

We will cover four key areas to help you build strong governance practices:

What governance is

We explain governance in easy to understand terms. You will learn what good governance looks like, and what it does not include.

Roles and responsibilities

You will learn the key differences between associations and clubs. We also cover the responsibilities of each and the role of committee members.

Constitution and by-laws

We explain the purpose and structure of constitutions and by-laws. You will learn how they differ from competition manuals and how to update them.

Running effective meetings

We show you how to plan clear agendas and run productive meetings. You will also learn how to build a positive governance culture.

Meet the presenter — Caroline Robinson

With a passion for assisting not-for-profits through governance and strategy, Caroline combines extensive experience with a broad-thinking, strategic approach to produce people-centred solutions. Connecting the people, services and information rural organisations need to help them expand and thrive in their community. Caroline leads the not for profit service and also provides support to small rural local governments.

Caroline currently holds an EO position on the North Eastern Wheatbelt Regional Organisation of Councils and has also held board positions on state government, rural not-for-profits, sports clubs and the Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry WA. In 2011 Caroline was awarded the Agrifutures National and WA Rural Woman of the Year, as well as the Shire of Narembeen Citizen of the Year in 2018.

Caroline is currently the Chair of the Ravensthorpe Hopetoun Future Fund, resides on the WA Country Health Service Board, is the Company Secretary of the SEGRA Foundation and President of the Eastern Districts Hockey Association.
