Intro

This year’s WA theme of “Celebrating our Unity” recognises that we achieve stronger outcomes when we work together and value the lived experience, insight and leadership of people with disability.

International Day of People with Disability is an opportunity not just to celebrate achievements, but to reflect on how we can make our workplaces and communities more inclusive.

CITS continues to take meaningful steps to ensure Western Australians with disability can thrive in their communities, delivering new initiatives like PlayOn WA, which is improving accessible sport infrastructure across the State, to ongoing investment in arts and wellbeing programs such as Creativity and Wellbeing for Young People, delivered in partnership with Healthway.

The department has also recently achieved Level 1 Carer-Friendly Employer Accreditation, reflecting the department’s commitment to providing a flexible and supportive workplace culture, access to new training, resources and a national support network.

It builds on CITS becoming a Disability Confident Recruiter in 2024, demonstrating the department’s ongoing commitment to embedding inclusive practices across recruitment, workplace culture and staff support.

CITS has also been recognised for its leadership in digital accessibility, with the department’s website named a finalist for Government Website of the Year at the 2025 Australian Access Awards.

The nomination reflects the department’s focus on accessible, user-centred communication and its ongoing efforts to ensure online platforms meet the diverse needs of the community.

CITS will continue its efforts to embed inclusion into all aspects of its work  from community programs and arts initiatives to workplace culture and digital accessibility  ensuring people of all abilities can fully engage, contribute and thrive.
