The course, funded through a $24,000 grant from the WA Government’s Community Use of School Sporting Facilities Program, is driving students and the surrounding community to disc-over the unique game.

Poynter Primary Physical Education (PE) teacher Gareth James said the course’s impact has been immediate.

“It’s a win-win for everybody, the school is able to get resources using the grant and equipment, which also benefits the wider community,” he said.

“Students use the course at recess, lunch and for PE, but then there’s the option for the community to come down after hours to play as well.

“People from all over Perth can come to Poynter Primary School and enjoy the course.”

Disc golf courses can be found across Perth from Greenwood to Mandurah.

Community Use of School Sporting Facilities Program encourages partnerships and agreements between schools and community sporting groups to better utilise existing sporting facilities.
