The State Government is investing in the next generation of female athletes and local sporting clubs, with the first recipients announced under the Game On, Girls grants program.
A total of $863,000 has been awarded to 197 sporting clubs across Western Australia, supporting programs and initiatives that encourage girls aged 13 to 17 to participate, build confidence and stay connected through sport.
The Game On, Girls program was established to address the drop off in sport participation among teenage girls and support clubs to create environments where young women feel welcome, valued and empowered to participate.
Grants of up to $5,000 will be directly provided to local clubs to deliver tailored programs, activities and initiatives that help remove barriers to participation, strengthen social connections and encourage girls to remain involved in organised sport.
The first round of successful recipients spans both metropolitan and regional Western Australia and includes a broad range of sports and activities.
The initiative delivers on an important election commitment to increase opportunities for women and girls in sport and ensure community clubs remain strong, inclusive and accessible places for young people.
