Intro
Living on a station almost 100 kilometres from Port Hedland has not stopped the 14-year-old from pursuing her passion for BMX.
Taylor took up the sport at age 5 as way to spend time with her brothers. Since then, her talent has taken her from the Pilbara to Europe.
"I just really enjoy the sport, I feel adrenaline and excitement," she said.
"I like the sportsmanship, the friends you can make and the challenge."
Her passion for BMX has taken her from local tracks in the Pilbara to the BMX World Championships in Copenhagen.
Next up is the BMX World Championships in Brisbane this month, where Taylor will once again test herself against the world's best riders.
Taylor's mother, Kelly, said living remotely presents challenges, but the family is committed to supporting her daughter.
"She was hungry enough that we could travel a little bit further with her," she said.
"Ever since then, we haven't stopped travelling."
Last year, Taylor won the WA State Championship title in the cruiser class and finished runner-up in her age division.
A few weeks later, she qualified for the World Championships after placing sixth in both classes at the Australian Championships.
Kelly hopes the experience Taylor gained in Copenhagen will help her go even further this year.
"She wants to make it further than she did last year," Kelly said.
"It's one race at a time, but her goal is to make the final."
Taylor's success on the bike earned her the 2025 Junior Sportsperson of the Year award at the Town of Port Hedland Sports Awards. Following this achievement, she was invited to join the Pilbara Talent Development Centre.
The program helps address the challenges associated with living in a remote area by providing access to coaching, education and training opportunities while allowing Taylor to continue living and training in the Pilbara.
