In 2020, any negativity towards riding were derailed after taking part in a WA Gravity Girls (WAGG) session.

WAGG’s goal is to support the growing female riding community across social and race environments through advocacy and community engagement.

‘I used to think I didn’t like riding, but it turns out that was not the case,’ she said.

‘I just wasn’t riding in an environment that allowed me to develop confidence and enjoyment.’

By taking part in WAGG run events, Raelene pedals alongside riders with similar experience, helping to shift concerns about holding others back, a common barrier for beginners.

‘The patience, coaching expertise and encouragement gave me the confidence to have a go in riding environments I would typically shy away from,’ she said.

Her involvement has shifted beyond participation, volunteering with WAGG by supporting administration and communication with other volunteers.

Her experience shows that with the right environment and support, people can build confidence, develop new skills and stay active at any stage of life.

Through the WA Government WAGG has been supported to open doors for more riders like Raelene, thanks to funding of more than $30,000.

WA Gravity Girls assists and provides advice to organisations wanting to run women’s specific events and engagement programs.
