Until 2 August, the Northbridge Piazza big screen will broadcast a range of events live from Glasgow, giving families, friends and sporting fans a central place to gather and support Australia's athletes.
Western Australia is strongly represented at the Games, including Australia's flag bearer Nina Kennedy, track and field star Peter Bol, swimmers Iona Anderson and Shayna Jack and 2025 Para cycling world champions Kane Perris and Luke Zaccaria.
Just a short walk from the piazza, the WA Museum Boola Bardip will present a pop-up exhibition in Hackett Hall celebrating Perth's hosting of the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
The exhibition showcases memorabilia from the WA Museum collection, alongside items from the State Library of Western Australia and the State Records Office, including the original gold, silver and bronze medals designed by Frank Norton.
The display will also feature Trevor Bickle's 1962 pole vault gold medal, competitors' and officials' badges, volunteer uniform items, opening ceremony tickets, souvenir programs and promotional material.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with one of the defining moments in Western Australia's sporting history while celebrating the achievements of today's Commonwealth Games athletes.
Last month, the State Government announced they would provide $5,000 in direct financial assistance to Western Australian athletes selected for the Australian Team. The funding recognises the significant commitment required to compete at the highest level, helping ease pressures associated with training, competition, study, work and everyday expenses so athletes can focus on preparation, recovery and performance.
