Perth Film Studios enjoyed a blockbuster opening, welcoming a cast of thousands for a behind the scenes look at WA’s state of the art production facility.  

Across two days, over 15,000 people were wowed by immersive experiences, entertainment, activities, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops.

The Perth Film Studios Careers Day attracted over 2,200 students from across WA eager learn more about the people, skills and technology shaping our growing screen industry. 

Visitors were able to explore a Behind-the-Scenes Zone with local band Birdland, experience a working studio environment, and were treated to a program of speakers and industry panel talks including keynote guest Ben Elton.

Saturday's Open Day included special appearances from popular Australian screen productions Outback Truckers and Whale Shark Jack, an interactive puppet whale by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, BMX Bandits-themed stunt shows by Freestyle Now, and music from Perth Symphony Orchestra.To support greater awareness and participation in the industry a Careers in Screen campaign was launched highlighting the breadth of careers in screen and creating greater visibility of education and training pathways. 

A new Creative Careers website now makes it easy to see the variety of pathways into the industry, outlining the diversity of roles and promoting training and skills development opportunities. 

The new campaign is part of the WA Screen Industry Workforce Development Strategy: 2026-2034 which aims to accelerate growth in WA’s screen industry workforce, skills and industry capacity. 

The Strategy was developed by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport in partnership with the Department of Training and Workforce Development, Screenwest, training providers and industry stakeholders to enable a skilled and available workforce.
