The Hybrid Web by The Concrete Club

Creative Communities COVID-19 Recovery Program.

During Term 1 of 2022, the Concrete Club collaborated with Folk of the Puppetree to present The Hybrid Web. It was a 10-week program for young people exploring themes of community identity and how individuals fit into the web of Margaret River.  The workshops included young people and local artists exploring numerous multi-disciplinary artforms behind puppet making, costume design and making, and story boarding. Another group of young people simultaneously enjoyed lyric song writing workshops with Bec Schoefiled and Dave Mann from The Nomadics. Importantly, the workshops also included youth workers and mental health recovery workers, allowing young people to connect if needed in a safe and supported environment.

The outcome of the project was a film clip of Hybrid Puppets and an original song all created by the young folk of Margaret River. The projects provided access to free, good quality art programs for the young people of the Margaret River region. They experienced puppet making, costume design, dance, song writing, singing and film making, in what was an opportunity to show young people what it means to work in the arts.
